Welcome...

This website is for descendants of Joseph Stanton, born about 1760, and his wife Joan Deane of Somerset County in England.  We know little of their descendants in England.  But two of their sons and a nephew emmigrated to Canada and we have traced most of the branches of those families.

The first son to emmigrate was James Stanton, born about 1795 and died March 7, 1881.  He came to Ontario around 1820 and settled in Leeds, South Crosby, Concession 5, Lot 20 near Clear Lake, Ontario.  His wife's name was Sarah Wright (1808-1872).  The couple had the following children:  Matilda, William Thomas (died in infancy), James, John, Sarah Anne, Mary, George, Francis and William Thomas (1849-1910).

The second son who came was George Stanton (1817-1904) who came in 1848 with his wife Sarah Meech (1814-1888) to New York and then on to Ontario where they settled in Newboro, Leeds County, North Crosby township, Ontario.  They had nine children:  Albert, George, Thomas, John, William, James, Sarah Jone, Catherine (Kit), and Joseph.

Joseph and Joane's nephew, Joseph Stanton (1827-1904) came to Leeds County, Ontario in 1849.  He met Mary Harrision and in 1858 they were married.  They lived on Concession 6, Lot 19 near Clear Lake, Ontario.  There they farmed and had 11 children:  James Coates, Francis Stedman, William Harrison, Sarah Fidelia, Susan Tabitha, Mary Anne, Elizabeth Martha, Edwin John, George Egar, Ernest Henry and Joseph Leonard.  Mary Anne and Joseph Leonard died in infancy.
